Senior Medical Editor
Key roles and responsibilities
- Review, copy edit, style, format and proofread a variety of medical writing deliverables, including (but not limited to):
- Journal articles
- Abstracts, posters and slide decks for scientific meetings
- Scientific platforms
- Meeting reports
- Training slide decks
- Other training materials.
- Perform other editor tasks, including:
- Prepare manuscripts for submission to journals, ensuring adherence to each journal’s author guidelines and style.
- Assist with submission of manuscripts to journals.
- Prepare abstracts for submission to congresses and assist with abstract submission.
- Provide editing support during development of subsequent posters/slide decks for presentation at congresses.
- Check accuracy of statements and data in manuscripts, abstracts, slide decks and other deliverables against reference/source material, and prepare reference packs.
- Style and format references using EndNote software (including amending EndNote styles).
- Create and maintain PerfectIt styles, as required by account teams.
- Amend figures and prepare simple figure redraws using software including PowerPoint and Adobe Illustrator.
- Liaise with external design and digital teams during the development of figures and other deliverables, including creating and clearly communicating a brief, checking the returned work and requesting amendments as required.
- Upload and manage data on various databases, including Datavision, Veeva and Zinc.
- Prepare manuscripts for submission to journals, ensuring adherence to each journal’s author guidelines and style.
- Advise on copyright-related matters, and apply, where necessary, for permission from rightsholders for reuse/adaptation of previously published content.
- Be knowledgeable of best practice guides used in the industry, e.g. GPP, ABPI Code of Practice, EFPIA Code.
- Assist in managing editor resource, including booking and briefing freelance editors.
- Take responsibility for the management of your own work and as needed, that of other editors (in-house and freelance).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in life science, English, journalism or other relevant subject.
- Experience of editing in the medical communications, pharmaceutical or healthcare sectors.
- Proficiency in a variety of software including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, EndNote, and Adobe Illustrator.
- Ability to self-manage workload.
- Ability to provide suitable documentary evidence of their right to work in the UK.
