Medical Editor
Key roles and responsibilities
- With guidance from a more senior editor, review, copy edit, style, format and proofread a variety of medical writing deliverables, including (but not limited to):
- Journal articles
- Abstracts, posters and slide decks for scientific meetings
- Scientific platforms
- Meeting reports
- Training slide decks
- Other training materials.
- Perform other editor tasks with guidance from a more senior editor, including:
- Prepare manuscripts for submission to journals, ensuring adherence to each journal’s author guidelines and style.
- Assist with submission of manuscripts to journals.
- Prepare abstracts for submission to congresses and assist with abstract submission.
- Provide editing support during development of subsequent posters/slide decks for presentation at congresses.
- Check accuracy of statements and data in manuscripts, abstracts, slide decks and other deliverables against reference/source material, and prepare reference packs.
- Style and format references using EndNote software (including amending EndNote styles).
- Create and maintain PerfectIt styles, as required by account teams.
- Amend figures and prepare simple figure redraws using software including PowerPoint and Adobe Illustrator.
- Liaise with external design and digital teams during the development of figures and other deliverables.
- Prepare manuscripts for submission to journals, ensuring adherence to each journal’s author guidelines and style.
- Take responsibility for the management of your own work.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in life science, English, journalism or other relevant subject.
- Experience of editing in the medical communications, pharmaceutical or healthcare sectors.
- Proficiency in a variety of software including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, EndNote, and Adobe Illustrator.
- Ability to self-manage workload.
- Ability to provide suitable documentary evidence of their right to work in the UK.
